“The Islamic Emirate does not want women to be victims,” Taliban officials said after the invasion of Afghanistan and told Amnesty.
They call on women to join the work of the government.
A Taliban official, Enamula Samgangan, a member of the culture commission, spoke about the initiative on Afghan state television, which is now controlled by the Taliban. They refer to the country as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
He also spoke of a “universal amnesty”, but did not elaborate on the details of the amnesty.
These statements are met with skepticism by Afghans who think the Taliban will stop and prevent women from participating in public activities and brutally beat them, the conquered community and cities.
The Taliban has vowed that women will be able to stay in government under Sharia law.
