Thousands of people have been evacuated on the Greek island of Evia, where forest fires have been fought for six days now.
There are more than 570 firefighters on the island at this time. There are two active fires in the north and south.
Reuters reports that the hotspots that threatened the northern districts of the capital Athens have receded in recent days. After prolonged strong heat and wind in the country, forest fires broke out in various places, burning hundreds of hectares of forest, homes and businesses.
The Greek army was involved in the firefighting process, assisted by France, Egypt, Switzerland and Spain.
